About

Portland opened in January 2015 with the aim of cooking the best produce, simply but with imagination and plenty of care. Our menus have changed a great deal since then, but that overarching idea has not.

In September 2015 Portland won a Michelin star and in 2016 its sister restaurant Clipstone opened just around the corner.

Our wine list is given just as much attention as our menu and changes almost as frequently – it starts at £25 a bottle and goes up to our ‘Special’ bottles which are all available by the glass. We also have a ‘Single Bottle List’ of rare and esoteric finds.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday.

We very much hope to meet you at Portland soon.

Private room

Portland Restaurant, private dining, London

Our private room seats parties of anything from 8 to 16 people. Because it is designed for larger groups, we offer a set menu for the whole table. The room is all yours for the afternoon or the evening and you will have a dedicated member of our team looking after you.

Christmas bookings: For all bookings in December, we offer a Christmas feasting menu only at £70 per person (unfortunately we are unable to provide a Tasting Menu during the month of December). Please select one of the feasting choices from the drop-down menu for all bookings during this period.

We offer two different menus :

A Feasting Menu at £55 per person and a Tasting Menu at £75

Option 1: Feasting Menu

The Feasting Menu offers a selection of seasonal dishes designed for sharing. Our homemade bread and charcuterie will kick things off, followed by 4 first courses on sharing plates for your party to enjoy.

After this, one main course will be served on large platters along with a number of vegetable sides.

Your main course options are the following:

Cornish beef
Rare breed pig
Yorkshire lamb
Venison
Cornish fish, cooked ‘en papillote’

You can then choose dessert for the whole group from these three options:

Pear & almond tart
Buttermilk pudding with Charentais melon
Chocolate mousse with Chantilly cream & candied nuts

To be followed by coffee and petits fours.

The price is £55 per head.

Option 2: Tasting Menu

Please note, we kindly request two weeks notice should you wish to opt for the tasting menu. Unfortunately, the tasting menu is only available for parties of up to 12 guests.

The Tasting Menu offers an experience more akin to dining upstairs in the main restaurant in Portland. All dishes are individually plated and each guest will receive their own dishes unlike the more ‘family-style’ sharing nature of the Feasting Menu.

The Private Room Tasting Menu begins with three snacks (one each for each guest) followed by four individually-plated courses (usually two fish, one vegetarian and then finally one larger meat main course).

This is followed by a plated dessert course devised by our pastry chef to suit your requirements and preference.

The price is £75 per head.

We will of course cater to all dietary requirements for either menu option and there is a text box in the booking page below to enter these.

PORTLAND x 108

PORTLAND x 108

Sunday 22 October
Bookings from 6pm onwards

We are delighted to be welcoming Kristian Baumann, head chef and co-owner of Restuarant 108 in Copenhagen, to Portland. A Korean-born Dane, Baumann spent his early career at noma, later helping to set up Relæ, before becoming head chef of 1.th. In July 2016 he opened 108 with noma’s René Redzepi. The restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in February 2017.

Merlin wrote to Kristian inviting him to Portland as he was keen for the team to witness this inspirational chef in action. We can think of no one better to host the first in our series of guest chef dinners due to our great admiration for his work and the synergy between Portland and 108’s philosophies.

Kristian and Merlin’s tasting menu will pay tribute to 108 and comprise of:
4 snacks + bread
4 savoury courses
1 pre-dessert course
1 dessert course
Petit fours

James Fryer, Portland’s beverage director, has carefully considered the menu and created a wine flight for the evening.

Menu £60pp
Wine Flight £40pp (optional)
